I usually dismiss New York Times opinion pieces as rubbish and too liberal. David Brooks usually brings out his statist views one way or another. This commnetary did, however, make some good points about our "me-centered" culture. What is missing is what can be done about this selfish society. I think that a firm belief in Christ as Our Saviour is the best foundation for a society that looks out for our neighbors. It seems so simple, "what would Jesus do?" almost always reveals the path forward.
I agree, with one caveat: that folks would have a belief in God, some power greater than themselves to have a sense of humility and service in the world. I'm with Jesus--but not everyone is....thanks for your words!
